Privacy Policy
SnipSimple is a screenshot app with no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. This page says exactly what leaves your Mac, and when.
- Nothing leaves your Mac unless you press Upload. Copy and Save stay local.
- No account. Uploads are tied to a random device token, not to your name or email.
- The link is the permission. Uploads are not listed or indexed anywhere. Only people who have the link can open it.
- We don't store IP addresses, and request logs on our upload service are switched off.
- Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
- Links expire after 90 days. You can delete everything you uploaded from your Mac at any time.
Who we are
SnipSimple is made by Home M K Inc., a company registered in Ontario, Canada ("we", "us"). If you have any question about this policy, email support@snipsimple.com.
What stays on your Mac
Screenshots, annotations, the files you save and your preferences all stay on your Mac. SnipSimple uses the macOS Screen Recording permission only to take the screenshot you ask for, at the moment you ask for it.
The app has no analytics, no crash reporting service, no advertising and no third-party SDKs. It does not track you across apps or websites.
What we receive when you upload
Uploading is optional and only happens when you choose it: the Upload button or ⌘U in the toolbar, or a Quick Capture shortcut you have set to Upload. You can turn uploading off entirely in Settings › Upload. The rest of this section is about SnipSimple Cloud, our hosted upload service. If you upload to your own storage, we receive nothing.
When you upload, our service receives and stores:
- The image you uploaded, with its file type, size and upload time.
- A device token. The first time you upload, the app asks our service for a random token and keeps it in your Mac's Keychain. Our service stores only a one-way hash of that token, never the token itself, so it can tell which uploads came from the same Mac.
- Usage counters for that token: how many images it has uploaded, overall and today. These enforce the limits below.
We do not receive your name, email, Apple ID, contacts, location, or any other information about you or your Mac.
IP addresses
We don't store IP addresses. Our upload service runs on Cloudflare, and its request logging is switched off. When the app requests a new device token, the connecting IP address is used briefly to limit how many tokens one network can request per minute. That counter is not written to our storage.
Like any network, Cloudflare necessarily processes connection data to deliver traffic. That processing is covered by Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Where uploads are stored
Uploaded images are stored in a private Cloudflare R2 storage bucket that only our upload service can read. Storage region: [to be confirmed].
Limits
- Up to 20 MB per image.
- Up to 500 uploads per device per day.
Who can see an upload
Each upload gets a link like https://snipsimple.app/AbC1234. Anyone who has the link can open the image, so share it the way you would share the image itself. Nobody else can find it:
- The storage bucket is private and there is no public list, gallery or search of uploads.
- The 7-character id is random, with about 2 trillion possibilities, so links can't practically be guessed.
- Images are served with
noindex, which asks search engines not to index them, and with ano-referrerpolicy.
Uploaded images are stored unencrypted in our storage, so we are technically able to access them. We don't look at them, analyse them, sell them, or use them to train AI models.
How long uploads are kept
Uploads expire 90 days after they are uploaded. A cleanup job runs once a day and permanently deletes expired images, so an image may stay available for up to about a day past the 90 days.
To make links load quickly, Cloudflare may keep a cached copy of an image for up to 24 hours after it was last fetched. That is why a deleted or expired link can keep working for up to about a day in some places.
Your device token stays valid until you reset it. The hashed token and its counters contain nothing about you.
Deleting your uploads
- Delete everything: Settings › Upload › Clear all my uploads… permanently deletes every image uploaded from this Mac with its current token. Cached copies can last up to about a day.
- Start fresh: Reset device identity… in the same tab throws away the device token and gets a new one next time. Clear your uploads first: after a reset, the app can no longer delete images uploaded under the old token, and they simply expire after 90 days.
- Uninstalling SnipSimple does not delete your uploads. They expire on their own after 90 days.
- Deleting a single link from inside the app is planned but not available yet. Until then, email us the link and we'll delete it.
Privacy options
SnipSimple offers two ways to upload.
Ordinary links Available
Everything described on this page. Links work as direct image links, so they preview in chat apps and Markdown.
Your own storage Available
You deploy the SnipSimple upload Worker to your own Cloudflare account and choose it in Settings › Upload › My own Cloudflare Worker. Your images then go straight to your account and never touch our servers, and this policy's sections on our upload service don't apply to them. A step-by-step guide is coming.
Legal requests and abuse
We remove content when we receive a lawful request or a valid abuse report. We may suspend a device token that is used to upload illegal content.
Purchases
SnipSimple is free to download. Optional purchases, a yearly Cloud subscription and a one-time Lifetime purchase, are sold through the Mac App Store and billed to your Apple Account. Apple processes the payment, and we never receive your card number, billing address or Apple Account details. To unlock what you bought, the app checks the purchase record Apple provides on your Mac. Apple's handling of your purchase is described in Apple's privacy policy.
Diagnostics
SnipSimple includes no crash-reporting or diagnostics SDKs. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your Mac's Privacy & Security settings, Apple may share aggregated crash logs with us. These contain no screenshots and no personal identifiers.
This website
snipsimple.com is a static website. It has no analytics code, sets no cookies, loads no third-party resources, has no forms, and every page forbids running scripts. The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes connection data such as your IP address in order to deliver and protect the site. See Cloudflare's privacy policy. Links to the Mac App Store take you to Apple, whose privacy policy applies there.
Children
SnipSimple is not directed to children under 13, or the equivalent minimum age in your country. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has uploaded something through SnipSimple, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under privacy laws such as Canada's PIPEDA, the EU and UK GDPR, or US state privacy laws. These can include the right to access, correct or delete personal information and to complain to a supervisory authority. SnipSimple has no accounts, so we cannot look you up by name or email. To have uploads deleted, use Clear all my uploads… or send us the links.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version at this address and update the effective date at the top. For material changes, we will also note the change in the app's release notes or on this page.
